This event has become a festive holiday tradition that many families in the Virginia area look forward to every New Years.
In 2010, laws in Virginia regarding the regulation of 1.3 pyrotechnic product became a lot more strict. The City of Alexandria needed a solution to keep the crowd coming. They needed to be less dependent on fireworks and more dependent on the other crowd pleasers in our arsenal. We stepped in and changed their event from a fireworks show into a multimedia celebration that included laser graphics, LED intelligent lighting, search lights, confetti and minimal 1.4 proximate pyrotechnics all set to a custom soundtrack. The existing Masonic Temple became our canvas as a choreographed light show filled the air. Each year the event gets larger and in our second year there was a lot more media buzz. One of the interesting effects this had was that instead of traditional confetti, branded ping pong balls were launched into the crowd. The person who posted the best photo of themselves with one on the event’s Facebook page was awarded a cash prize.
