CFP National Championship: 2020
In 2020, the Image Engineering team traveled to New Orleans to provide Fiur Productions and the College Football Playoff National Championship with pyrotechnics and special effects. In its 5th year with CFP, the Image team continued to enhance the game day presentation and provide something that had never been seen before at a CFP National Championship Game. The addition was an immersive laser and lighting experience from the player locker room to the field to amp up the players and provide engaging content for television viewers at home and via the scoreboards for fans in the stadium.
In addition to the tunnel walk elements, the Image team designed a full flame effect gauntlet for the player introduction. Players ran through a CO2 wall and were flanked by (2) 20′ long set piece walls each filled with (4) flame units providing 15′ flame balls. At the end of the gauntlet were (2) flame towers which each produced 50′ flame spires, again another first for the CFP and one of the largest flame effects available on any field.
For the post game celebration, the Image team partnered with AFX, the local pyro provider, for the New Orleans Saints and the Mercedes Benz Superdome. At Image’s direction, the AFX team created custom 40′-60′ diameter airbursts providing a 30-second celebration display at the end of the game. The result from start to finish was a special effects package with elements that had never been seen before and worthy of a national championship game.
